Most of our classes are what we call semi-participation, which means that our Chef does the majority of the class demonstration style, but calls up students to help out at intervals during the class. In the last 10 years, we have found this to be the most effective method of teaching, so that all students get the same great experience, and that those who want to “get their hands dirty” can, while those who prefer to sit back and sip a glass of wine can do that too!
We also offer “Workshops” which are classes that are completely participatory, or at least mostly so. If you prefer a hands-on class you will want to make sure and sign up for one of our Workshops.
For participation classes, you will be provided with an apron, as well as a recipe booklet outlining the recipes used in class that day. The recipes are yours to keep! You may want to bring a pen and a small notebook to take notes. All other cooking equipment will be provided for you, including knives.
In most classes, you can expect to do a generous amount of food tasting. Some classes include a full meal and will be noted as such. Food prepared in our school will not leave the premises unless otherwise stated.
**It is highly recommended that you also take care to wear comfortable, closed toed rubber soled shoes in the interest of your safety. Please no flip flops**
Most classes last approximately 2 hours. Workshops and series of classes are generally 3-4 hours each because they are more in depth.
Classes will either be hands-on or demonstration style, and will be noted as such in the class calendar. Some classes are called semi-participation because you will spend the majority of the class watching and tasting and occasionally students come up and help.
Many of our classes include wine that can be enjoyed in tasting portions or by the glass, depending on the class. The cost of these drinks may or may not be included in the price of the class depending on the pricing and subject matter.
Please plan to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start time of your class in order to check in. Seating is first come first serve and we will honor seating requests in advance whenever possible. As our chefs are busy preparing the school for your class, please try not to arrive any earlier, thanks!
Unfortunately that would be impossible for us to do – please mark your calendar accordingly!
Cooking class and event reservations are just like purchasing theater tickets. We staff and make purchases on your behalf in advance of the class regardless of your actual attendance. We also have limited space which makes it important for us to have an exact guest count since we often have to turn away potential students when classes fill.
Because we are a 100% reservation based business, we have to adhere to a very specific policy regarding cancellation. Please carefully review this policy below:
We reserve the right to cancel any class, at any time, for any reason. We make every effort to give as much advanced notice as possible in the rare event we have to cancel a class. Your payment will be refunded in full or you may request credit or transfer of payment to another class.
If you are signed up for a series of classes, please note that no refunds will be given after the series has begun, regardless of circumstance because space is limited in these series.
If you’d like to be placed on the waiting list for a full class, please call (760) 777-1161 and we will place you on the list. If space becomes available we will notify waiting list names in the order they were placed on the list.
Yes, most of our popular classes will make a repeat performance on our schedule at some point. If you missed a class and would like to be notified when it is offered again, please email or call us at (760) 777-1161.

We reserve the right to cancel a class at any time due to insufficient enrollment, illness or in case of an emergency. Cancelled classes may be rescheduled, or your payment can be transferred towards the purchase of a different class.
We reserve the right to make substitutions for anything on our menu at any time. The highly perishable and seasonal nature of food and wine makes it difficult to stay within the confines of a menu posted well in advance. Our staff makes every effort to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for you and will occasionally make adequate substitutions in that pursuit.
If you have dietary restrictions, allergies or other important needs that should be brought to our attention, please make us aware of those in advance of your class so that we can take proper action to make sure our chefs are aware of your needs. We can not make substitutions for you on the day of your class.
We ask that cell phones be turned off during class to keep distractions to a minimum. Also, we cannot guarantee the safety of your valuables while you are cooking with us so please don’t bring any!
Babies and small children are not allowed to attend classes that are not specifically designated for children or teens. Our regular cooking classes are intended for those that are 16 years of age or older, although younger students may attend certain classes and workshops with a parent. Classes that serve alcohol, wine or beer are intended for those 21 years of age and older.
